Some giants of the 21st Century

Several books in the Old Testament (Genesis, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Numbers, 1 Samuel) tell us that there were giants whose appearance was frightening for the normal inhabitants of the earth during those times. Goliath, for example, historians say, measured between 9.5 to 11 feet. He had 6 fingers on each hand and each foot, making a total of 24 fingers. Og, king of Bashan, had an iron bed that was 14 feet long (Deut. 3:11). This was something out of the extraordinary. If we stop for a moment and think on these two examples, we realize that the normal people back then had reason to feel like grasshoppers. Undoubtedly, every period of human history has had its giants, mostly likely not with the described appearance but harmful. This present age is no exception. Today, the church is battling against a number of giants that rise daily in opposition to the Gospel of the Lord and to the spiritual growth of His people. Among these is the giant of secularism, the giant of selfishness, the giant of self-sufficiency, the giant of hatred, bitterness, loneliness, depression, anger, resentment, etc.

Today, more than ever, we have before us the responsibility and mandate from the Lord to dress on with the armor of faith, the shield of the Word, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. These giants have several heads, gigantic feet and many fingers (of course, not physically speaking), however, the Bible assures us that no weapon will prevent the Church of God to move forward and for the body of Christ to grow in its fullness. Today is the day to knock down the giant that has been disturbing your mind, heart, and body. Remember: When you knock him down, make sure you give him to the scavengers to devour him! Dear reader, I pray that the articles in this issue written by our staff of New Life are a blessing to you.
